a LONG time coming...

It is safe to say that it has been a LONG time since I have updated. There has been so much going on lately! I wasn't sure where to start... so, I started by changing my background. As it turns out, I had forgotten how to do that :) It took me a while, but I finally got it. Now my header doesn't match, but I'll tackle that later!

This week has been a big week of changes. Last Thursday was my last day at the school (prayers have been answered!) and on Monday I started my new job. I absolutely love it! I am working at a rehabilitation center and nursing home. I am finally doing what I have wanted to do since I started school and I am really enjoying it. Working holidays will not be a perk of the job, but I am so thankful to have found this awesome opportunity!

I am hoping to keep updating regularly now that I will have some free time in my life! No promises... :)

Work, Tests, and Football!

It has taken me a while to update my blog. Two weeks ago I started my job as a speech pathologist with Leander ISD. As most of you know, I really want to work in the medical field but this is going to be a great experience and one that will be good to have under my belt. I am looking more on the bright side which is helping me to get more and more excited about my job! I will have a great time working with so many diverse kids. I will be mainly at an elementary school, but I also have a few kiddos at a middle school (For all of you from Hallsville, the system here is different than at home. Elementary is Pre-K-5 and MS is 6-8, so I have a WIDE range of kids. I am most excited about this.) Since the start it has been a whirl-wind to say the least. I am really enjoying the people I work with, but, oh my goodness, learning all the process and, mostly, the paperwork has been challenging! Although school starts Monday, I won't start providing therapy for about a week so lets just hope everything settles down by then. Whew! Welcome to the "real world," huh?

On a good note, I just found out that I passed my Praxis! This is the test I had to take to receive my license. I am so glad that is behind me. Oh happy day!!

I spent this weekend being a little crafty. I have always loved doing crafts, but I have a feeling I won't have much time for them once school starts. Although, I am glad that I can try to leave work at work and enjoy my life again (unlike grad school :)). I made a few things for my classrooms, but what I am most excited about it my table setting. Football, of course, is a big deal in the Adams family so I decided to be festive and set my table for football season. Also, since we must support two teams I had fun mixing it up! It still isn't complete (I need 2 red and 2 burnt orange plates- thats on the agenda for today!) but I think it is going to be cute. Check out the pictures below!

Don't ask why the fonts are different sizes. The answer is "who knows?" Crazy new-fangled thing...

Trash to Treasure

When Kyle and I got married our friend, Joe, found us this set of dining room chairs for free from an estate sale in south Louisiana. Mom and I recovered them when we first moved to Austin (because they were terrible the way they came) but never got around to finishing them. This weekend mom came to town and we decided to redo them as our weekend project. This time we finished the project and did them the correct way so hopefully they will last (the first time we didn't cover them properly so they were already falling apart, with the cat's help of course!). It took us what seemed like FOREVER to get them done, but I think the finished project was definitely worth it! I wish I had taken a before and after but I didn't. Here are the afters.

Home Sweet Home- Part 2

Okie Dokie, here is the rest of the house! enjoy!
Our Bedroom. Don't mind the huge tan square in the corner- it's the dog kennel!
My vanity. It is the antique sign in table from our wedding!
As I have recently become obsessed, literally OBSESSED, with anything bird-ish, I made this artwork to hang above our bed. I decided to do our room in a bird theme- hence the pictures, bedspread, and hanging birdcage. Seriously though, when did bird stuff get so darn cute!
Hanging above the bathtub. Another piece I made, its owls! :)
The bathroom. Nothing fancy here.
Kyle's "Man Cave." Dare I enter?
And I thought my desk was messy. The deal is I can do whatever with the rest of the house and he will help me clean; however, I am forbidden to touch the man cave!
The guest bedroom- our old stuff.
And the guest bathroom. I took this picture so you can see both walls (using the mirror)!

So that is it! Home sweet home! Hope you enjoyed my little tour!

Home Sweet Home- part 1

Err... so I just published this whole post and it somehow disappeared... weird. Here we go again.

Kyle and I were lucky enough to get to move into a rent house this summer. It is still in Austin, but only 4 minutes from Kyle’s school and 35-ish minutes from mine (I think I got the good end of the deal-NOT!). We are enjoying the house so far although there is still a lot to do!

This is the living room. We got new furniture- which is comfy to take a nap on!- and a rug. However, the rug is in hiding due to puppy control (tile is MUCH easier to clean) J. Speaking of the puppy, how about we play a game similar to “Where’s Waldo?” We call it “Where’s Moose?”

This is a flower arrangement that I made. I loved it so much that I decided that I will get a few more peacock colored accessories to finish off the space!
This is our second living room –aka- my office/ work space. It is really supposed to be a formal dining room but we aren’t fancy enough to need one. Right now we have a little reading corner and my desk filling the space.
*Note: Your eyes are not failing you. This is, in fact, a hideous mirrored wall. In my attempt to make it look better, I made curtains to go on either end. It is not 100% but hey, what do you do?
Above: This is my messy, messy desk and the pup! Below: We LOVE our kitchen. We have so much more space to store all our stuff and it is the first time either of us has ever cooked with gas. We are still getting used to it but have enjoyed making new things while we still have some extra time this summer.
So that is it for the main living space. I will post the bedroom pictures soon!

Puppy Love

So this past week Kyle and I got a new golden retriever puppy. His name is Moose.
Why you ask? Well, why not? He is definitely a handful but very worth it! Since we moved we have a great back yard for him to play in, and I have thought about (when he is older) training him to be a therapy dog. If I do eventually get the job I want in a hospital, it could be a great opportunity to use him with the patients. We will see; I am trying to learn that everything works out in its own time.

He loves to run around the house and play... a lot!

He is sooo good when he is sleeping :) By the way, why do puppies sleep all day and then want to be up all night? I don't get it.

As for the cat, she is getting used to him. At first she pretended that she didn't want to play, but as it turns out, she is the one egging him on- not the other way around as we first thought! They are funny to watch though, and as long as they are playing together, we can actually get some stuff done around the house.

I will keep you updated, he is going to get big fast. They never stay puppies for long. Have a great day!

Welcome!

Hello All! Welcome to my blog. I really like keeping up with everyone through y'alls blogs, so I decided to make one myself. This is going to be a realllllly slow process as I needed Kyle's help to even set it up! But I remain hopeful that I will learn how to blog and then can share everything that is going on in our lives with y'all! Enjoy!
